Who We Are |
My name is Merete Donnelly and I live 90 minutes drive south of Sydney's Centre in NSW.
I have been involved with Danella Rug Hooking though my family and before leaving Denmark at the age of 20 I already had a detailed knowledge and experience in the craft. I have now decided that I would like to demonstrate and teach Danella in Australia. |
Our History |
The Danella Rug Hooking tool was designed by my grandfather, Ernst Thomsen, in 1939, but production began in 1949. My mother, Jane Dyrdal, designed the many different rugs available in Kits.
My grandmother, Ella Thomsen, owned a large embroidery shop in Hjoerring, Denmark. Here the Danella technique was demonstrated. The speed in which one could produce a wall to wall carpet made it a very popular craft. My father, Kaare Dyrdal, travelled to craft shops all-over Denmark and part of Germany and demonstrated the Danella Rug Hooking. Customers from USA and Canada, England and South Africa made the business viable. In Japan competitions in designing rugs and wall hangings in artistic ways are held regularly. Using the Danella Rug Making Tool is only limited to the size of one loop. To day the Rug Hooking Tool is still available from Denmark. |
